Here is the story of how our little Braxton joined the family.
June 30th I woke up, went to the bathroom and noticed I was loosing my mucus plug. I had a work meeting that morning I needed to go to so I got ready and let everyone know that the time was getting closer due to me loosing my plug. My mom told me "Ohh!!! when I lost my plug I went into labor that night" My meeting went fine and nothing exciting happened there.
After I went to the meeting I picked up Max from my friends Whitney's house and took him home. I for some reason was sooo tired so I laid down and relaxed on the couch while Max watched TV. Later that afternoon I took a nap while Max did. All the while I was thinking in my head get out of bed, walk around, and make this happen because my doctor was on call today and if I didn't have him today most likely he wouldn't be the one delivering Braxton.
So I got up from my nap and did some laundry and the dishes "incase" something happened I would be ready to go. Well Max got up from his nap, my last load of Laundry was drying and I was helping Max in the kitchen.
At about 5:45pm I bent over to get something off the floor for Max when I felt a pop inside of me (weird I know) I stood up and a BIG gush of water went streaming down my legs. Max was there he looked at me and said "Mom did you pee your pants" I didn't know what to say as I was trying so hard not to burst out laughing. I told him no well kind of, mommy needs to call daddy. I took a step to go clean up and get a towel and another BIG gush of water came out so I walked quickly to the bathroom. Max is following me all the way there and each step there was water still coming out so Max keeps asking "MOM are you peeing your pants, eww, that's gross STOP IT" Of course I went to go to the nearest bathroom which was the guest bathroom and I hadn't restocked it with any sort of towels. So I am sitting on the toilet realizing I have to go clear across the house to my bathroom to get towels. So I took off my undies put them between my legs and walking quickly to my bathroom. Luckily there wasn't a lot more water coming out and this point. So I grabbed the towels and went back to the kitchen so I could be on a floor where the water would be easy to clean up.
Then I called Dean who happened to be staying late at work so the HVAC guy could work on their AC at work. I said Honey looks like we are having a baby my water just broke. He excitingly said okay sounds good I'll be right there.
Then I called my friend Whitney told her my water broke and asked if she could come get Max and take them to her place because every time I take a step water comes out. Plus since this was happening I no longer had undies on and was walking a round in a skirt with a towel between my legs. What a site I am sure! She laughed and said sure. So I grabbed Max's bag that gratefully I had already packed and his carseat and met her at the front door.
After Whitney left I called my mom and let her know to meet us at the hospital. She was super excited as well. Then I called Michelle to let her know where Max was so she could go get him and take him to her house to spend the night. I was so happy everything was set and I felt good.
By this point 6:03 pm small little contractions started to happen and I was just waiting for Dean to get home so he could grab the last few things and we would be on our way.
So Dean got home and you could tell he was running around a little like he was a little frazzled. So I told him get the bags and grab this few extra things on the list I left on the bags. He said okay. Since my water broke Dean went and covered my car seat with plastic garbage bags and a ton more towels. As he was running around I could tell the contractions were getting stronger so I let Dean know that we needed to get going. A few minutes later we were in the car and our way to the hospital!!!
On our way there I reminded Dean not to talk to me as I had contractions so I could breath through them. I just remember driving down state street in 6pm traffic staring at the cars license plate in front of me thinking these are getting stronger can we go any faster. I asked Dean to get going faster because the contractions were getting stronger and I think he didn't quiet believe me so he said he will get there as soon as he can. I started to kind of hum through the contractions as they came and that seemed to help.
We arrived at the hospital and I had called them a few minutes out and asked for a wheelchair out front because at this point I couldn't walk anymore (and I still had a towel between my legs). The hospital staff was great I got in a wheelchair and they wheeled me upstairs and Dean went and parked the car and met us up in L&D.
I got into triage about 6:45 and the nurse I had said she needed to test and make sure I had really broke my water. I tried to politely ask REALLY??? I just soaked several towels. She explained that some women wet them selves. Then I was thinking would you said me home like this anyway as I am moaning through contractions. She asked me to push a little to see if water would come out and of course it didn't but I told her I had to use the restroom which was good cause she needed a sample to.
When I got back from the bathroom I gushed again and my nurse was able to see it and test it. When it came back positive she checked me and I was at a 5 and she said that my next nurse would be in about 15mins. After 10 minutes the contractions got worse so I called her back in and she checked me and I was a 7 so she got my next nurse that was coming on (Caitlyn with her orientee Whitney) since they could tell I was going to go fast. So Caitlyn wheeled me to my labor room and I asked if I could get in the tub.
As I was waiting for the tub to fill I asked Caitlyn if she thought it was too late for an epidural and she said that she didn't think it would kick in in time but that I could get one if I wanted. I said never mind. I got in the tub and seriously it was BLISS! It felt SO good and I was able to cope again. It relieved pressure and pain.
A few minutes later Caitlyn said ok I am going to call Doc Lowder my doctor. I was SO EXCITED that he was going to get to deliver Braxton. Doc Lowder came in a few minutes later to see how I was doing and saw that I was in the tub moaning through contractions, he told the nurse to get me out so I didn't deliver in the tub. After he left I BEGGED my nurse to please let me stay in the tub. She said okay only for a few more contractions. Doc Lowder came back in a little later and said I really needed to get out of the tub. So I stood up and I couldn't life my leg over the tub it was SO strange. Baby was really low at this point since I was at a nine. So I told Dean he was going to have to lift me out and my nurse grabbed the first rolling thing she could so I could roll to the bed since I couldn't walk. It happened to be the doctors chair... oops.
As I am wheeling back to the labor bed I realize just how immodest I am. (I was COMPLETELY naked) but at this point I didn't really care due to the pain I was in. So I made it back to the bed. Doc Lower got there and said let prep for delivery. So he did while I labored a little longer then he sat down and started to coach me and said if you lift your legs up the baby will come right out. I tried and couldn't so Dean grabbed one and my mom grabbed the other and lifted them for me. Then the one my mom had started to get a charley horse that hurt worse then the contraction. I asked my mom to rub it and she did but it didn't help to Doc Lowder had her lay my leg back down to relieve the cramp. Doc Lowder had me push a few more times and kept me engaged and concentrated then the next thing I knew I could feel the ring of fire and I knew it would soon be over. Then came the head and then the rest of the body. Just like that our little BRAXTON RUSSELL ROOS was born. SO prefect with the sweetest round little face.
When he first came out he wasn't crying which scared me and I was trying to stimulate him until Doc Lowder said not to worry because he hasn't cut the cord yet. He cut the cord and little Brax started to cry. We love our little bundle of Joy!
